As I was bushwhacking through the woods, I was startled by the cry of a baby bear. I followed this noise until I came upon a bedding site. When I reached down to feel the matted grass, it was still warm. It wasn’t until another piercing cry that I was alerted to a mother and her cub, situated a mere 30 feet from us atop a hill.
