Each year, dozens of brown bears will travel vast distances in search of salmon. They typically return to the same stream systems as the year before, where they will bulk up before hibernation. On days when salmon counts are high, a large male bear will eat in excess of 100,000 calories.I arrived in Alaska a few weeks before the salmon run so that I could document this mass movement of bears. This photo is the pinnacle of what I sought to capture; taken with a 50mm lens.
